Free VPN for Iran That Works on Restrictive Networks

Internet access in Iran is heavily filtered, and VPN connections themselves may also be restricted. BearVPN uses strong obfuscation to make VPN traffic harder for restrictive networks to identify when internet connectivity is still available. Free access is available on Android and iOS without registration; Windows, macOS, and full server-location selection require a paid plan.

Why Use a VPN in Iran?

Connect Through Restrictive Networks

Iran uses extensive filtering and has repeatedly restricted access to global platforms and VPN traffic. When the underlying internet connection is still available, obfuscated VPN traffic can provide another route when ordinary VPN connections or websites are filtered. A VPN cannot restore connectivity during a complete internet shutdown.

Browse with More Privacy on Local Networks

A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN server and masks your usual public IP from destinations reached through the tunnel. This reduces exposure on the local network, but it does not make your identity or device completely anonymous or protect against every form of surveillance.

What Can You Do with a VPN in Iran?

Use another network route when access is restricted in Iran, or connect through Iran when you specifically need an Iranian IP location.

Reach Restricted Websites and Apps

Try another VPN region when a website or app is unavailable through your current Iranian network and internet connectivity itself is still working.

Use Messaging Across Filtered Networks

Try another encrypted route when a messaging or communication service is filtered. Results depend on the app, ISP, protocol, and current restrictions.

Access Global News and Information

Use another VPN region to reach news, search, social, and information services that remain accessible outside the restricted network.

Compatible with all platforms

One account works on all devices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. BearVPN offers free access on Android and iOS without registration. The free version uses a limited route and does not provide full server-location selection. Windows, macOS, and full location selection require a paid plan.

Iranian networks can block VPN server addresses, protocols, or identifiable VPN traffic. A provider may work on one ISP or network and fail on another, and conditions can change quickly. Obfuscation, server availability, and protocol choice can all affect whether a connection succeeds.

Usually not if your device has no working path to the global internet. A VPN can reroute an existing internet connection, but it cannot create connectivity when the underlying international connection is completely cut off. Partial filtering or selective restrictions are different and may still be bypassable depending on the network.

Yes. If your plan includes full server-location selection, connect to an Iran location to use an Iranian public IP address. Websites will generally see the VPN server’s IP instead of your usual public IP, although some services may also use account, device, or other location signals.

Yes. BearVPN supports Windows and macOS. Desktop access requires a paid plan. Whether the VPN can connect in Iran may vary by ISP, protocol, server availability, and current network restrictions.

Why Choose BearVPN for Iran

Enjoy these technical advantages when using our VPN servers in Iran

RAM-Only Server

BearVPN uses RAM-only server infrastructure so active server data is stored in volatile memory instead of persistent disk storage. Data held in RAM is cleared when the server restarts.

Bare-Metal Servers

BearVPN runs on dedicated bare-metal server infrastructure rather than shared VPS instances, giving us greater control over the server environment used to carry VPN traffic.

Advanced Obfuscation

BearVPN’s strong obfuscation is designed to make VPN traffic harder for restrictive networks to identify. This is especially useful in Iran, where standard VPN protocols and server addresses may be filtered or blocked.

AES-256 Encryption

AES-256 encryption helps protect traffic between your device and the VPN server from being read directly on the local network.

Smart Split Tunneling

Choose which supported apps use the VPN connection and which continue through your regular internet connection. This is useful when only selected apps need another network route.

Automatic Kill Switch

If the VPN connection drops unexpectedly, Kill Switch can block internet traffic to help prevent your usual public IP from being exposed outside the VPN tunnel.

Is it legal to use a VPN in Iran?

As of 2026, Iran restricts the use of unauthorized VPNs. In February 2024, the Supreme Council of Cyberspace approved rules prohibiting unlicensed VPN use and requiring authorization for approved access tools, although the implementation and enforcement of these rules have not always been transparent.

Iran also continues to block or filter many global online services and has imposed major internet shutdowns, including near-total nationwide disruptions in 2025 and 2026. A VPN may help with selective filtering while internet connectivity remains available, but it cannot restore access during a complete shutdown. Users should follow current local requirements and should not use a VPN for unlawful activity.
